Latest Updates from Our Project:

3 Days Left!
almost 3 years ago – Sun, May 30, 2021 at 11:09:01 AM

There are just three days left in the campaign!

We're closing in on the next two stretch goals, so please keep sharing the campaign so we can enhance the rewards for everybody:

In addition, I wanted to highlight one of my favorite reward tiers:

"Search for Prints!"

This level includes not only the (now) double-sized physical first issue and the digital edition, but also ALL mini-prints by our lineup of amazing artists.

This was already the best value when the campaign started--but I've also pulled in two other fantastic artists to bring the total up to 10 prints! These prints feature MANDRILL, P.I. on assorted adventures around Toonsville (and many of these scenes will be featured in future MANDRILL, P.I. short stories, comics, and novels!).

Don't miss your chance to get your hands on them!

If you want to join in on the fun and grab the prints, you can select Manage Your Pledge at the top of our main Kickstarter page, and upgrade to this "Search for Prints" tier.

I've also made individual mini-prints available as Add-Ons to physical reward tiers, so if you want to add an individual mini-print to a lower tier level or get multiple copies of a specific print, this is now available!

To add this on, head to the top of our Kickstarter Page and click "Manage Your Pledge." Then select "Change your pledge." Then select your pledge (even if it is the same exact pledge level as you previously had, click that green button). Then you will see a screen with your pledge and the Add-Ons below that are available.

Be back soon with more updates. Thank you again for your support!

One week left to go! And more recommendations!
almost 3 years ago – Thu, May 27, 2021 at 06:02:45 PM

We've got just over a week to go. Thank you again for your support!

We're closing in on 151 backers and this amazing bundle of comics, so please share the campaign on social and with your friends to get us over the line and unlock more comics for everybody!

-------

And now, if you've got the hankering for a few more comics, here are some more I'd recommend:

1) Buddy by Terry Mayo

This delightful looking comic is a Horror/Comedy for All Ages like "Milo & Otis meets The Exorcist."

The pitch:

"BUDDY follows the misadventures of an utterly unassuming hero named BUDDY. Buddy is a simple Pug who is content to Wake up - Pee - Eat - Chase Birds - Fall Asleep... REPEAT. That is until a doorway to Evil enters his home.

With the help of Charlie the Housecat, Buddy must find the courage to save his humans from a barrage of devilish beasts that are determined to wreak havoc on all mankind! Let's just pray that Buddy doesn't get sidetracked by something shiny first!"

2) Jack Irons: The Steel Cowboy by Cody Fernandez

As the author of at least one Space Western, I always get excited when I see a futuristic Western tale. Jack Irons is no exception to that rule!

This story is about Jack, a man cursed with life and immortality, fighting evil in a post-apocalyptic world where Earth is a reservation run by a corrupt alien government.

3) The Samurai Slasher by Mike Garley

This one looks super fun if you're into over-the-top Horror/Comedy. Here's the pitch:

"The Samurai Slasher is an unstoppable killing machine who hacks, slashes, and stabs his way through anyone that's stupid enough to get in his way. The comic is a mixture of horror, comedy, and the bizarre type of storylines that you'd expect to find in an 80s b-movie."

There's also a drinking game you can play online with your friends that looks HIGHLY entertaining.

As Demanded--New Pin Ups!
almost 3 years ago – Sat, May 22, 2021 at 01:16:07 PM

IT'S NEW MINI-PRINT TIME!

You asked for more mini-print pin ups, and I'm here to announce them!

  • These will be added to all pledges at the "Search for Prints" Tier and higher ($35+)--there's even more value in this option now! Just hit "Manage Pledge" to upgrade to this tier
  • These will be available as add-ons to lower physical pledge levels
  • These will be included in the Deluxe Digital PDF

1) "Dandy" Angelica Vannini

The first is from “Dandy” Angelica Vannini. If you aren’t following her on Instagram, you should be. She is an amazing talent—so amazing that I can’t believe she had open spots on her commission list!

She created a piece with MANDRILL, P.I. being stalked by something mysterious and dangerous—which just so happens to be the villain in the third Mandrill, P.I. prose novel to be released at the end of 2021 (so extra sneak peek right here!). The detail she worked into this piece is fantastic—including Kip Catfish trying to warn his buddy to RUN!

2) Brooke Penrose

The second is from Brooke Penrose, an awesome talent out of Australia.

He created a piece that has such Hellboy vibes, it's amazing. MANDRILL, P.I. is facing off against a fungal robot monster from The Fungi Fiefdom, one of the many neighborhoods in Toonsville. Will this be in an upcoming MANDRILL, P.I. short story? You'll have to wait and see!

Here are more projects I've backed that I think you'll enjoy:

1) YULETOWN BLUES by Alan Belanger and Carlos Trigo

This is a super fun comic illustrated by the artist of Mandrill, P.I.! More noir excitement in a super-fun setting! Here's the pitch:

"The North Pole is melting, Jack Frost is missing, and there's a killer on the loose. Welcome to Yuletown where corruption fuels Saint Nick's industrial Christmas machine and gangs of mutant elves do his dirty work.

Enter Julian "Jules" Frost, the son of Jack Frost and mystery solver whose search for his father leads him down a path of violence, murder, and lies that puts the fate of Yuletown in his hands."

2) PBOW: #1-2, A GRINDHOUSE ACTION COMEDY by Clay Adams

This comic is definitely for mature readers only, but not too mature! It's fun, well written, and absolutely hilarious! If you're into Rick and Morty style humor and over the top action, then this series is for you! Here's the pitch:

"Plucked from the time-stream by mad scientist Nikola Tesla, six pregnant women accidentally kill a young Hitler -- and unleash a nightmare future! Now, hunted by the Exalted Father, and with Tesla acting as Charlie to their Angels, they must save the world from a hell of their own creation... before their water breaks!"

Without Further Ado, The Next Stretch Goal!
almost 3 years ago – Fri, May 21, 2021 at 11:53:25 AM

THANK YOU AGAIN!

We’ve passed 100 backers and unlocked our next backer stretch goal. I'm super excited to announce the next one! Here goes:

That's right! 6 digital comics from an array of all-star creators will be sent to all backers. Gotta get to 151 to catch them all, so don't hesitate to share MANDRILL, P.I. on social media to help get us across the 151 backer mark. Here are the comics included in the bundle:

  • Savage Sasquanaut #1 (Wes Hartman & Gab Santos): This rocket fueled sci-fi action adventure comic is about the legendary bigfoot carving a path of chaos across the galaxy. Join him as he hijacks a starship from the largest intergalactic super power, the Aurellian Empire, and that's after he organized a prison break with the outlandish new friends to escape the clutches of a maniacal Empress all in the hope to find a way back to Earth.
  • Gorilla My Dreams: Mime of My Life (Big Tim Stiles & Ahmed Raafat): In Struggle-Town, the streets are protected by Knockaround-Guy, a talking gorilla who fancies himself a superhero. But when a street mime is found dead (asphyxiated inside an actual invisible box), Knockaround-Guy soon finds himself wading through the ugly and dangerous underbelly of Struggle-Town.
  • Lost Dogs MC #1 (Joshua Janes): Ten years have passed since the world was damned and the dead began to walk the streets to feed on the souls of the innocent. The castaways of humanity have continued to struggle for survival outside the walls of the Nedewen Keep. Little Man and Buttercup herd zombies for the Nedewen machine, as they work their plan to rescue Boo. During their latest run, they may have stumbled upon just the right opportunity to gain access when a Nazi cult attacks the Keep, leaving it open and defenseless.
  • Ichabod Jones #1 (Russel Nohelty & Renzo Podestra): A psychopath escapes a mental asylum and becomes a monster hunter, but doesn't know if he's killing monsters, humans, or it's all in his head.
  • Dust Bunny Mafia: Based on a True Story #1 (Bret Juliano): A mini comic collection featuring 22 Dust Bunny Mafia comics inspired by real life American mobsters ranging from Al Capone to Jimmy Hoffa.
  • The Six Swords #1 (Melchor Sapiandante, Matthew Perez, Chris Massari, Ryan Cody): The Six Swords travel a post-apocalyptic United States, finding west coast cults, east coast strongholds, and endless gangland in-between. The land is reminiscent of the Old West: though lawless, people have come together to start anew, and each town offers something interesting for the Six Swords.

I've also got a huge update coming this weekend, so stay tuned.

Here are more projects I've backed that I think you'll enjoy:

1) CUDDLES by Jed McPherson

This crime comic one-shot looks amazingly fun! Here's the pitch:

Cuddles’ life ain’t too difficult. He’s got a cushy job collecting protection money for a local crime boss, but after he’s partnered up with the boss’ son, things start to go sideways. First, he finds out that his partner has been skimming off the top. Even worse, the FBI are hot on their trail. Cuddles quickly finds that he has to play all sides against each other in order to survive.

Cuddles is a story of divided loyalty and self-preservation. It’s about trying to do the right thing when you’ve spent your entire life doing the opposite. It’s about survival and what that can end up costing you.

2) NIGHT WOLF #1-5 by Robert Multari

It's an awesome, super-fun werewolf tale. Here's the pitch:

Born into the outcast breed of werewolves known as the Monoki, eighteen-year-old Rodney Marcelli is reluctantly pulled into an ancient war between good and evil, during a modern time where the line has blurred.

With the help of Snow Paw, the Pureblood Monoki, and the supernatural evil slayer, Night Hunter, Rod must learn to master his newly found lycanthropy and mysterious kinetic energy power that only he possesses. Rod must fight the Dark Covenant in order to avenge his friends and family, and to save the girl he loves from the master vampire, Lord Malice.

Rodney Marcelli is Night Wolf!

Next Stretch Goal Unlocked! And another project recommendation!
almost 3 years ago – Thu, May 20, 2021 at 12:16:15 AM

YOU ARE AMAZING!

We've just passed 100 backers and unlocked our next backer stretch goal. With the digital rewards, I'll be sending out a digital PDF coloring book featuring Carlos' fantastic inks.

I'll be back soon to announce the next backer stretch goal. I've also got a huge update coming this weekend. As requested by you, I've been at work recruiting more artists for mini-prints.

To tide you over until this announcement, here is a little sneak peak of the piece by "Dandy" Angelica Vannini that I'll be revealing this weekend:

---

I've got another awesome project to highlight (I've backed it, and you should, too!):

FOREST FOLK by Dax Gordine & Raid Press

If you're here, then you probably have a love for cartoons and anthropomorphic animals. Well, you are in luck! I've got a recommendation for another project that plays in this toybox.

It's called Forest Folk, and it's a delightful collection of strips. Here's the description:

"Meet Filburt the Fox, a jokester and a know-it-all with a knack for finding trouble. Lucky for Filburt that his best friend is Thomas, a happy-go-lucky elf, who's magic drawing quill can conjure the solution to any of their woes. MOST of the time...

In this collection of 105 strips, follow the shenanigans of Filburt and Thomas, along with the rest of the peculiar cast, including no-nonsense Barry the Bearista, Grumpy Cat Gus, and nerdy Benni the Bunny. Watch as they deal with playful misunderstandings and wacky hijinks during spirited adventures in the forest they all call home."

I can't wait to get my hands on it and read it with my kid! It's got such lively art and its style reminds me of a lot of my favorite newspaper strips growing up.

Anyway, that's it for this update! Be back soon to announce the next backer stretch goal.
